We believe in bringing the latest research and evidence-based practices to centers that want to develop (or revise) their practices in equine-assisted services (EAS) to better align with updated knowledge in equine behavior, equine welfare and well-being, and equine-human interactions. Equine International fosters collaborations with different existing equine facilities to develop EAS programs tailored to the physical facility, individual horses, and target clientele.
Our online education programs are designed around these principles so there are also options for those interested in learning more about adapting research and theory to their own practices.
Equine International has partnered with Project Comeback to develop and facilitate EAS programs at the facility in Holliston, MA. The research team at Equine International, combined with specialists in accessibility, mental health professionals, and veterans has updated the programming at the Project Comeback location and design tailored EAS programming for veterans and first responders in MA.
This unique program applies updated research and principles of One Welfare to create a program focusing on mutual well-being where veterans benefit from helping horses adjust to domestic environments and building relationships with horses to create opportunities for developing mutual trust. The pairing of the client with the horse is key in this program since the goal is to help both horses and humans learn mutual communication and relational skills that are beneficial for both horse and human. All programs are unmounted and emphasize that horses, like humans, can be included in social interactions regardless of physical ability, instead emphasizing communication, choice, agency, and consent for all involved.
Programming at Project Comeback also partners with the Warrior Within Yoga Project to provide additional wellness options for veterans at each session.
We aim to provide services to veterans at no cost. In order to achieve this goal, we depend on donations from people like you.
